Tower & Town
A downloadable game
Tower & Town is a solo RPG about a rural wizard managing their time, making friends, and changing magical scholarship forever—while trying not to be driven out by an angry mob or lose research funding.
After years at the Mages’ College, you have finally completed your studies and acquired a tower of your own. What better use for your new arcane residence than pursuing a wizard’s favorite pastime: magical research! The College, of course, has high expectations and anticipates regular reports on your progress.
There is, however, a complication. Your new tower is far from the distractions of the city, but it’s only an hour’s walk from a small town very eager for your magical assistance. You may have plans to revolutionize magical science, but the townspeople are really more interested in your warding their chicken coops against thieving sprites.
Between the research in your tower and your work for the town, you’ll have your hands full. Can you keep the townspeople content and the College satisfied long enough to finish your research?
Version 1.1 includes all the rules you'll need to play. Currently in development are addons for: 2+ player variants, premade towns (with townsfolk, task inspiration, and research ideas), more Mages' College content, and an optional setting guide. A prototype tracking spreadsheet is available here (File > Make a Copy to use).

Hi! are the add-ons still coming? I really like this game!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Unfortunately, due to other commitments and projects, the addons are on indefinite hold.
Hey! I've got a question about your games :) How can I best reach out to you?
I’m not actively developing Tower & Town at the moment, but the best way to get in touch would probably be on tumblr @asheepinthenight!
Oh, this looks great! I've been looking for a game like this for a while. I might write a review of this on my Tumblr after I give it a play or two!
I love this! I’ve played a few in game months over short sessions, and it’s been a pleasant time. One question though: task complexity. For each of the four types you give one or two options for its complexity. I’ve just been using the fiction to determine how long it should take, but is there a specific method for determining it?
I’m glad you’ve been enjoying the game! For task complexity, using the fiction as you have been is a great way to do it. To keep the rules light and flexible, the only mechanics-based method that’s included is the optional random table on page 8. Feel free to experiment and use whatever method works best for you!
Are the add-ons still in development? I just found this game and I love it.
I'm glad you're enjoying it! I've finally had some time recently to get back to working on the add-ons, so yes--still in development, just much slower than expected!
I love this game and I've been having a lot of fun with it! I did have a question: when rolling dice to see if I've succeeded or failed at a task, should I be taking the highest d6 or adding them all together and determining success or failure that way? Thank you!
Sorry it took me so long to respond! You take the highest d6 you rolled. So as long as one die in your pool shows 5 or 6, you succeed. Glad you're enjoying the game!
